Vanilla (kind of) Angel cream doughnut

It's been awhile since my last post, that being said I eased my way back into it this time. Nothing too fancy this time around, but as always they tasted great! I made my rendition of the traditional angel cream doughnut, you know, the ones with that light fluffy vanilla cream in them and the chocolate glaze. Mine were different though....most if not all of the ones anyone has ever eaten from grocery stores or gas stations or even the big name guys are made with vanilla, sugar, shortening aka Crisco, and fluff (maybe), as well as other chemicals and such for the filling. Mine was made with sugar, vanilla, fluff, the almighty butter, and a touch of almond extract cause that stuff is like a drug to me. It wasn't light and fluffy, but it wasn't like a butter cream frosting either, it was its own new thing. I also strayed away from the glaze and just whipped up a quick chocolate frosting instead....anyways enough of my blabbering...here are the pictures:

They were good, I have yet to make one I haven't enjoyed thoroughly...I take that back, I wasn't the biggest fan of my bourbon bacon on that one doughnut, but that is just because I'm not the biggest fan of bourbon. Anyways, I don't know what I will be doing for the next one, maybe a strawberry rhubarb one since that is in season. Hopefully my schedule allows me to make it this next week! Until then I will leave you with the ominous window kittens...

They seeeeee youuuuuu

I can do more than doughnuts!

Today I made a cake from scratch. I call it the Reese's peanut butter cup cake and it is the first time I have ever made it. After having a slice a bit ago it is outstanding. Here are some pictures to make you jealous:

I just wanted to post this on my blog to show that I am capable of more than doughnuts and I will probably also start to post some savory items I create as well. Happy Friday!

Mocha doughnuts

This weeks doughnut was a mocha doughnut. It was a coffee doughnut with a chocolate coffee glaze. I think that they were delicious, others not so much...they don't love coffee as much as me though.....Anyways, here are some pictures:

I think I will start doing some of the suggestions I have from facebook next, I want to give the strawberry rhubarb idea a go.

Tiramisu doughnuts

So these doughnuts were a bit of a disappointment to me, but seemingly no one else that tried them. They had coffee in the dough and that worked out perfect, they were the best looking ones yet and I couldn't be more pleased about that. The filling though....it liquified on me right before filling the doughnuts, tiramisu can be temperamental and I think I know why this happened. I have ideas on how to fix it as a filling and I will have to try them, I also have an idea on how to make it a frosted doughnut with a hole in it that I may try next week. Anyways, here are the pictures:

They looked great and tasted great. Onto the next ones.

Cinnamon rolls

Happy mothers day to all of the mothers out there! I made cinnamon rolls this week since my mom doesn't eat doughnuts anymore I wanted to make something for her. They turned out great and I have many ideas on how to improve and change the flavor profile. Here are some pictures:

They tasted great and for my first attempt they couldn't have come out any better! Next week I will be making tiramisu doughnuts....I've been wanting to make those for awhile now.

The issue

This has been bugging me awhile. I have been making doughnuts and the taste testers (coworkers, family, and friends) are good and all. I get anxious when they try them and they aren't afraid to tell me if something isn't right or what can improve the doughnut. I want to have the opinions of people I don't know...the hopefully future customers. So I will be looking into doing some event or something of that sort. It makes me feel good to see people enjoying something I created, something that very few people could replicate perfectly. I find creating unique doughnut ideas fun and rewarding. I would also like to get the input of others on what kind of doughnut they would like to see me make, it can be a crazy idea, for instance the other day we thought of making a Hawaiian fruit punch doughnut (the dough would be flavored, possibly with Kool-Aid).
After the cinnamon roles next week I hope to make a doughnut I have been wanting to make for awhile now, the tiramisu doughnut...I haven't quite figured out what to do beyond the filling so far, but I'm sure it will come together. Anyways, I hope people who view this toss their crazy doughnut ideas my way and I can give them a go...don't be afraid to comment.

PB&J Doughnuts!

So it seems my dough recipe tweaking has paid off! the doughnuts came out pretty much perfect and they were soft and fluffy. Now all I have to work on proofing and then I can move on to some other doughnuts to perfect. Anyways, this week was the pb&j doughnut and it tasted like eating the sandwich. It had a strawberry jelly filling and a peanut butter glaze, here are some pictures:

I will be taking a break from fried dough next week and take a stab at some cinnamon roles.
